This is the trip that ties the Mediterranean together β twelve days, four countries, and ten ports, sailing east from Rome to Athens aboard the Enchanted Princess. You’ll touch the cobblestones of imperial Rome, sip wine on the cliffs of a 13th-century Sardinian fortress, climb to the top of Pisa’s leaning tower, walk the bastions of medieval Malta, ride a horse-drawn carriage through Sicilian Messina, dance the night away in Mykonos, see the Colossus’s harbor in Rhodes, walk among the ruins of Ephesus, and finish under the Acropolis at sunset.
It’s the kind of itinerary you’d struggle to assemble yourself β and it’s the reason we capped this group at 16 travelers. With an EWT Tours host onboard from embarkation through farewell, you get the comfort of a fully-escorted small group with the freedom of a Princess cruise’s onboard amenities. Every port comes with a recommended EWT Tours excursion, and shore time is structured so you actually see what you came for.
Sail east. The Mediterranean is waiting.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
DAY 1
Rome (Civitavecchia) β Embark
Arrive in Rome and transfer to the port of Civitavecchia. Embark the Enchanted Princess in the early afternoon. Sail at 6:00pm with a welcome dinner onboard hosted by your EWT host. Optional: arrive 1-2 days early for a Rome pre-tour (ask EWT about extensions).
DAY 2
Alghero, Sardinia
Dock 8:00am. Alghero feels more Catalan than Italian β its medieval Old Town has been continuously inhabited since the 1300s and the regional language is still a Catalan dialect. Walk the sea-facing bastions, lunch on octopus carpaccio, and visit the nearby Neptune’s Grotto. Depart 5:00pm.
DAY 3
Genoa, Italy
Dock 8:00am. Italy’s largest seaport and the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Wander the medieval Caruggi alleyways, visit the striped marble Cathedral of San Lorenzo, and try the city’s namesake dish β pesto alla Genovese β at lunch. Depart 8:00pm.
DAY 4
Florence & Pisa (Livorno)
Dock 7:00am. From the port of Livorno, you have a full day to choose between Florence (Uffizi, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio) or Pisa (the Leaning Tower and Square of Miracles). EWT recommends a half-day in each via private group transfer. Depart 7:00pm.
DAY 5
At Sea
A relaxed day cruising the western Mediterranean. Onboard activities, spa, pools, or just unwind on deck.
DAY 6
Valletta, Malta
Dock 8:00am. Malta’s capital is a UNESCO World Heritage Site β a 16th-century walled city built by the Knights of St. John. Explore St. John’s Co-Cathedral (with two Caravaggio paintings), the Grand Master’s Palace, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens overlooking the Grand Harbour. Depart 9:00pm.
DAY 7
Messina, Sicily
Dock 8:00am. From Messina you can choose Mt. Etna (Europe’s largest active volcano), Taormina (Sicily’s elegant cliffside town), or stay in Messina to explore the cathedral and astronomical clock. Depart 6:00pm.
DAY 8
At Sea
A second sea day as we cross the Ionian Sea toward the Greek isles. Onboard cooking demonstrations and a Greek-themed evening to set the mood.
DAY 9
Mykonos, Greece
Dock 7:00am. The most photogenic of the Cyclades β whitewashed lanes of Mykonos Town, windmills along the waterfront, and a sunset at Little Venice that lives up to every Instagram image. Optional EWT shore excursion: a private boat to Delos, the sacred birthplace of Apollo. Depart 9:00pm.
DAY 10
Rhodes, Greece
Dock 9:00am. The Old Town of Rhodes is the largest still-inhabited medieval city in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk the Street of the Knights, visit the Palace of the Grand Master, and see the harbor where the Colossus of Rhodes once stood. Depart 6:00pm.
DAY 11
Kusadasi, Turkey
Dock 8:00am. Gateway to ancient Ephesus β one of the best-preserved classical cities in the Mediterranean. Walk the marble streets where Mark Antony and Cleopatra walked, see the Library of Celsus, and the Great Theater. Optional add-on: the House of the Virgin Mary. Depart 5:00pm.
DAY 12
Athens (Piraeus) β Disembark
Arrive Piraeus 6:00am. Disembark and transfer into Athens. Optional EWT post-tour: a 2-3 day Athens extension covering the Acropolis, Plaka, and a day trip to Delphi or Cape Sounion (ask about extensions).

Frequently Asked Questions
What does "fully escorted" mean? βΎ
It means Daniel from EWT Tours is with you the entire trip β from welcome dinner to farewell. You're not handed off to a different rep in each city. He handles logistics, transitions, group dinners, and is your point of contact for anything that comes up.
How big is the group? βΎ
Maximum 16 travelers. EWT Tours intentionally caps group size so the experience stays personal β no buses, no name tags, no waiting on 50 people to get off the elevator. Most departures end up in the 10-14 range.
What's the physical difficulty level? βΎ
Easy to moderate. You should be comfortable walking 3-5 miles per day on varied terrain. There's some uneven cobblestone and stairs in historic sites. No hiking or strenuous activity is required. If you have specific mobility considerations, contact us and we'll talk through it.
Can I travel solo? βΎ
Absolutely. About a third of EWT Tours guests are solo travelers. A single-supplement fee applies for a private room. We can also pair solo travelers as roommates to avoid the supplement β just let us know your preference.
What's the cancellation policy? βΎ
Cancel 90+ days before departure for a full credit toward any future EWT Tours trip. Closer-to-departure cancellations follow a sliding scale. We strongly recommend travel insurance, which covers cancellation for medical or emergency reasons. Full terms are in your booking confirmation.
How do I lock in my spot? βΎ
Send the inquiry form on this page (or call us). We'll email a full trip packet, set up a free 20-minute consultation call to answer your questions, and walk you through booking. A deposit holds your spot β no payment is required just to inquire.
