Tour Overview

Alaska is the trip Americans put off the longest and regret waiting on the most. We’ve built this 12-day journey around two of the state’s most iconic experiences — the Princess Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail to Denali, and the legendary Voyage of the Glaciers cruise — paired with the small-group, fully-escorted EWT touch.

You’ll start in Anchorage with a welcome dinner, then travel deep into the interior to spend nights at two of Princess’s wilderness lodges, including a full day exploring Denali National Park where there’s a real chance to spot the “Big Five”: moose, caribou, bears, wolves, and Dall sheep. From there you board Island Princess for a southbound cruise through the most concentrated stretch of tidewater glaciers in North America — Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay National Park, College Fjord — and finish in Vancouver.

This is fully escorted, with EWT hosts on both the land and sea portions. Group size is intentionally capped at 16 to keep it personal.

Touch down at Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International. Transfer to Hotel Captain Cook in downtown Anchorage where your EWT host hosts a welcome dinner and trip orientation. Overnight: Hotel Captain Cook.

DAY 2

Anchorage to Mt. McKinley

Scenic motorcoach journey north along the Parks Highway with photo stops at viewpoints. Arrive at Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge in the afternoon — Denali itself visible from the lodge property on clear days. Optional flightseeing add-on available. Overnight: Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge.

DAY 3

Mt. McKinley to Denali

Continue north to Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge, perched on the doorstep of Denali National Park. Afternoon at leisure to explore the lodge’s Princess Village, riverwalk, and Treehouse — designed by Pete Nelson of Animal Planet’s Treehouse Masters. Overnight: Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.

DAY 4

Denali National Park

Full-day Natural History Tour into the park with a naturalist guide. Watch for the “Big Five” of Alaska wildlife: moose, caribou, bears, wolves, and Dall sheep. Optional: Husky Homestead dog-sledding visit. Overnight: Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.

DAY 5

Denali to Whittier — Embark Island Princess

Board Princess’s exclusive Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail service south through the Alaska Range to Whittier — one of the great train rides on the continent. Embark Island Princess in the afternoon. Welcome dinner onboard. Overnight: Onboard.

DAY 6

College Fjord (Scenic Cruising)

A full day cruising one of Alaska’s most spectacular glacier-filled fjords, with naturalist commentary on deck. Watch for calving glaciers and harbor seals on the ice floes.

DAY 7

Hubbard Glacier (Scenic Cruising)

The continent’s longest tidewater glacier — 6 miles wide and 400 feet tall at its face. The captain positions the ship for the best views as ice cracks and crashes into the bay.

DAY 8

Glacier Bay National Park (Scenic Cruising)

A full day in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. National Park rangers come aboard to narrate the day. Spot humpback whales, sea otters, and bald eagles.

DAY 9

Skagway, Alaska

Step into Gold Rush history in this perfectly preserved frontier town. Optional shore excursions: White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, dog sledding on a glacier, helicopter flightseeing.

DAY 10

Juneau, Alaska

Alaska’s capital — accessible only by sea or air. Optional: Mendenhall Glacier, Tracy Arm whale watching, or a helicopter landing on Juneau Icefield.

DAY 11

Ketchikan, Alaska

Alaska’s salmon capital and gateway to Misty Fjords National Monument. Optional: Saxman Native Village totem pole heritage tour, the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, or a Misty Fjords floatplane tour.

DAY 12

Inside Passage (Scenic Cruising)

Final day at sea cruising the sheltered waters of the Inside Passage. Farewell dinner onboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "fully escorted" mean?
It means Daniel from EWT Tours is with you the entire trip — from welcome dinner to farewell. You're not handed off to a different rep in each city. He handles logistics, transitions, group dinners, and is your point of contact for anything that comes up.
How big is the group?
Maximum 16 travelers. EWT Tours intentionally caps group size so the experience stays personal — no buses, no name tags, no waiting on 50 people to get off the elevator. Most departures end up in the 10-14 range.
What's the physical difficulty level?
Easy to moderate. You should be comfortable walking 3-5 miles per day on varied terrain. There's some uneven cobblestone and stairs in historic sites. No hiking or strenuous activity is required. If you have specific mobility considerations, contact us and we'll talk through it.
Can I travel solo?
Absolutely. About a third of EWT Tours guests are solo travelers. A single-supplement fee applies for a private room. We can also pair solo travelers as roommates to avoid the supplement — just let us know your preference.
What's the cancellation policy?
Cancel 90+ days before departure for a full credit toward any future EWT Tours trip. Closer-to-departure cancellations follow a sliding scale. We strongly recommend travel insurance, which covers cancellation for medical or emergency reasons. Full terms are in your booking confirmation.
How do I lock in my spot?
Send the inquiry form on this page (or call us). We'll email a full trip packet, set up a free 20-minute consultation call to answer your questions, and walk you through booking. A deposit holds your spot — no payment is required just to inquire.
